Like every year, I feel I’m not fully prepared for Ramadan, But like everyone else I have spoken to in the past few days, There is a certain desperation that has come with this year’s Ramadan The yearning to bury ourselves in the sanctity of Quran To seek solace and guidance in the embrace of faith The deep desire to want to throw ourselves broken and needy in front of Allah Begging and pleading To flush out our systems of the toxins that are heavy in the air around us For the world is broken and bruised and bleeding And we’ve all slowly but surely recognized and understood well that Only Allah can bring relief Only Allah has answers Only Allah can bring redemption Ramadan Mubarak May this month be a source of spiritual nourishment and beacon of hope for us all. #ramadankareem #ramadanmubarak #dubai🇦🇪

From the rivers to the sea…

Part 1 As Muslims, we recite a small prayer before we leave home for whatever reason. In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah. Today I felt the full weight of these words. My husband and I were embarking on the journey of our lifetimes. Hajj. It really was divine invitation that brought us to this point. Even though it had always been a deep seated desire, neither of us ever thought it would happen so soon. And for this ease I am so so grateful. Sure we were among the lucky ones, but on the flip side was a whole plethora of worries. Of having to leave our kids behind for 2 whole weeks. Of a mentally, spiritually and physically challenging journey. Of the intense Saudi heat. Of whether we’d be able to fulfil the rights of the journey. Of doing justice to this invitation. Of the many things that could potentially go wrong. The prayer that was habitual when stepping out of the house was now a heavy weight on a muscle being strenuously exercised. Hajj is a combination of all the tennets of faith. It requires pure submission, belief in the oneness of God, patience, prayer, charity and fasting (restriction from the comforts you are used to). We were beginning with ‘Taqwa’ or God consciousness. True reliance on God as a higher power, the One to whom we align ourselves through our actions and thoughts.
